Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) Program
Application to attend the 2022 Disability Policy Seminar (DPS; Virtual or In-Person)
What: The Disability Policy Seminar is an opportunity to learn about the key issues relevant in the disability field. After two intensive days of training and learning, you will then have the opportunity to educate Members of Congress and their staff on the priorities of the I/DD community. You will return to your hometowns and LEND programs with the tools to advocate strongly for individuals with disabilities and their families.

Dates: March 23: Virtual Pre-Seminar Policy Forum for all trainees
March 28-30: Hybrid Disability Policy Seminar
Location: Washington, DC, The Renaissance Downtown Hotel
To Apply: If you are interested in attending, please respond to this survey by midnight, Tuesday 2/22 in LearnDash .
Trainees will be notified by Thursday, 2/24 about whether they will have the opportunity to attend the conference.
If Attending In-Person (Must comply with WIHD’s and DPS’s safety protocol):
Scheduling: Trainees funded to attend in-person should plan to arrive at the conference in DC by Monday, 3/28 @ 11am and will leave for home on Wednesday, 3/30 in the late afternoon or early evening after Hill visits are completed. Trainees funded will participate in Advocacy Day on Wednesday (specific activities TBD). Please note in the past, Advocacy Day has been spent on the Hill, participating in visits with legislators and/or their staffers).
Cost: LEND will pay for all reasonable expenses (see below). Expenses total approximately $1500-2000. You can cover all of your expenses up front and be reimbursed by LEND after submitting your expense report. If you choose, some expenses (travel, hotel, and registration) can be paid up front by LEND and you can submit for reimbursement for meals (not covered by the conference) and covered taxi expenses.

Expenses include:
- Travel (Airline, Train (not Acela), Bus OR Auto Mileage—can be pre-paid by LEND)
- Hotel (Average room accommodation—can be pre-paid by LEND)
- Meeting Registration (Request an invoice and submit to LEND for payment)
- Parking (at the airport, train station, hotel and/or transportation from airport/train station to/from the hotel)
- Meals (some meals will be provided by the conference; LEND will cover the rest on a per diem rate for Washington DC)
If selected, trainees will need to:
- Provide group report-back to the LEND trainees after the conference
- Register for the meeting (please select invoice at checkout, and give this form to Clara for payment)
- If attending in-person:
- Submit travel authorization form with estimated travel expenses (submit to Clara for review and approval)
Presentation: All LEND trainees who attend the 2022 Disability Policy Seminar will report-back on Thursday, 4/7 at 12:45-1:30pm. Please work as a group to report-back (PowerPoint is optional) to your fellow LEND trainees. Please include:
- Brief overview of the conference
- Describe something new that you learned
- Describe how you will apply what you learned to your work with children/families and/or community involvement or to future leadership activities
- Identify which MCH leadership competencies were strengthened by attending
