ITP Long Term Assignment
The Individual Training Plan (ITP) is part of the ILP course. It is a long-term project that guides each trainee to create and carry out an individual plan of
action to develop skills, knowledge, and values to promote leadership development for self, others and community as indicated in the MCH competencies. The final product of the ITP will
be reflective and evidence-based documentation of the work trainees have accomplished during the LEND year and will serve as a key component of the evaluation of each trainee.
The creation of the ITP supports:
1) reflecting on current proficiency in the 12 MCH Leadership Competency areas;
2) setting a targeted objective for achievement in a competency area of desired growth in each of the 3 targeted areas (Self, Others and Wider Community);
3) monitoring and documenting progress toward meeting your targeted objective
The ITP process should be viewed as the beginning of a life-long progression toward honing one’s skills in the MCH competencies.
The final deliverable is as follows:
April 14, midnight: Complete and Submit a brief (5-minute) PowerPoint presentation (3-5 slides) highlighting your ITP journey (successes, challenges, lessons learned) and/or ITP outcome or achievement. Upload the presentation and all final products HERE.
Tips for your ITP:
• The ITP process is a platform for you to have real-life experiences with the MCH competencies. Some examples of these opportunities include regularly meeting with an expert in your field/domain, having your faculty advisor observe you and give you feedback, join a new committee, research and plan an initiative, attend meetings, compile resources about a specific topic, etc.
• Take initiative early to create these opportunities.
• When you write your objectives, think SMART. SMART: Specific; Measurable/Observable; Attainable; Relevant and results-oriented; Targeted to your needs and desired level of learning.
• Add to your ITP throughout the year, rather than waiting until the two due dates. You may do this by documenting your experiences in the ITP form column labeled “evidence/examples.”
• Provide any evidence (documents, summaries, lit searches, writing, bibliographies, PowerPoint files, etc.) from the work you are doing for your ITP plan. Please remember, this is optional!
• Use the ITP as an opportunity to document the work that you might want to share on an interview and that you might want to add to your updated CV.
Grading Criteria
• Mid-Year Self-Reflection and Evaluation on ITP progress (15 points)
• End-Year Self- Reflection and Evaluation on ITP progress and results (15 points)
